You might have heard about the Warhammer 40k franchise because of its long history which started with a miniature wargame or you saw Henry Cavil talking about it on TikTok. Either way,Warhammer 40K Boltgun, made by the team at Auroch Digital, is for every new or old fan of the Warhammer universe.
The game is already available to order online and pre-order to get you started ahead of the release. You can also find the trailer below.
Warhammer 40k Boltgun story
In Warhammer 40K Boltgun, you play as a Sternguard Veteran. Summoned by an Inquisitor, you will traverse Graia, a forge world overrun by foes.. You ll play through a wide variety of areas, from outside terrain to inside enemy bases with many different enemy types to slaughter. The story might focus on dealing with the Chaos agents to undermine their forces that are likely putting the Emperor of Mankind at risk on some level.
If any of these names ring a bell, don t worry! While the lore behind the Warhammer universe might seem daunting to newcomers considering the long history of the franchise, it all starts with the Emperor of Mankind, the immortal monarch who rules over mankind as well as many worlds conquered by his armies.
Among the Emperor s forces, there are the Space Marines also known as Adeptus Astartes who are genetically modified to become a sort of superhuman soldier. People know about their power throughout the universe and many cultures see them as angels serving the Emperor who is also called The God-Emperor.
The greatest enemies of the Emperor are the forces of Chaos who serve the Chaos Gods. While the latter are extremely powerful creatures that live and control another dimension that underlies the physical world, the former include servants of many races, such as daemons and Chaos Space Marines.
These are called Traitor Marines because they have abandoned the Emperor of Mankind to serve one or all four Chaos Gods. Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines are two sides of the same coin since both of them fight for the right to rule humankind.
Warhammer 40k Boltgun gameplay
Warhammer 40k Boltgun is all about frenetic first-person action, making players familiar with Doom feel at home while playing. As a Space Marine, you can either shoot enemies to death or get close to unleashing a bloody attack with your chainsword. The arsenal you have gets larger as you progress through the game and the idea seems to be to change between weapons using the one that fits the best in each confrontation.
So far, it s clear to us that you can find a Shotgun, a Relic Bolter, a Pulse Rifle, and, of course, your chainsword. At the same time, you don t need to worry if the game becomes more complex once more weapons are unlocked. The Space Marine that you play as is a quite beefy character, able to take a lot of damage while you rush through the hordes of enemies.
In order to reinforce the old-school spirit of Boltgun, no progression system common to modern games of the genre is present, so you don t need to worry about leveling up a skill tree or unlocking new passive skills for your weapons. The level design you find in the game is also reminiscent of boomer shooters, having secrets, kits, and ammunition spread throughout. However, the team at Auroch Digital promised to deliver a modern take to the retro shooter style of games immortalized by the classic id Software s Doom.
