Finally, Mortal Kombat is back, and with it, the complete cast list for the Mortal Kombat 1 game in 2023. Before you start practicing any combos for your primary character, it’s important to know who you may choose from the roster, which is made up of a mix of new and returning fighters.
When the final release date for Mortal Kombat 1 comes, we can’t wait to play the most recent installment in the franchise. Mortal Kombat 1 will undoubtedly fight its way onto our list of the top fighting games, we’re certain of that. Here is the complete list of Mortal Kombat 1 characters and combatants appearing in the 2023 game:

Thanks to the game’s official announcement trailer and FAQ, these are the characters who are currently known to us. But in the future, NetherRealm plans to add more characters to the cast, including some new versions of old favorites.
Scorpion
The most recognizable character in the Mortal Kombat series, Scorpion (also known by his human name, Hanzo Hasashi), is a reincarnated ninja who is powerful, quick, and capable of pulling off incredible feats while wielding Hellfire, an element that is abundant in the Netherrealm.
Despite the fact that he has been in every Mortal Kombat game from the beginning of the series, we are nonetheless glad to see him here.
Sub-Zero
Kuai Liang, better known by his character name Sub-Zero, is a lethal cryomancer who is as quick as he is deadly and is one of the most recognizable figures in the Mortal Kombat series. He has the ability to construct numerous ice-based weapons, dealing terrible blows to anybody who stands in his path.
Working with his longtime foe Scorpion, this version of Sub-Zero also puts a stop to the conflict between Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu.
Liu Kang
Liu Kang is one of the few characters to feature in every Mortal Kombat game, although for those who are unfamiliar with him, Liu Kang has frequently been viewed as the series’ protagonist, typically being perceived as a threat by Shang Tsung and his master, Shao Khan.
After successfully resetting the universe in the Mortal Kombat 11 expansion, Aftermath, Fire God Liu Kang becomes the primary character in this timeline.
Raiden
Anyone who has played Mortal Kombat previously should be familiar with Raiden, the everlasting God of Thunder and guardian of Earthrealm, as he appears in each and every title in the series. Although Liu Kang and Kung Lao see him as a father figure, he has become corrupted in Mortal Kombat 11.
However, as Kronika erased the previous Raiden from the original timeline, this version of Raiden seems to be trying to avoid the errors of his future self. Although confusing, we hope that the normal Raiden is back.
Kung Lao
Kung Lao is one of Earthrealm’s champions, like Liu Kang, but he prefers to live a peaceful life. He can be easily identified by his razor-sharp headgear. He is constantly trying to show that he is just as strong as his friend Liu Kang since, unfortunately, things aren’t that easy in the Mortal Kombat universe.
Kitana
Princess Kitana, who had previously been raised from the dead, had been killed for betraying Shao Khan and supporting the Earthrealmers. But owing to some time-jumping antics in Mortal Kombat 11, she was brought back and assisted Raiden and his friends in taking down Kronika.
After all was said and done, she collaborated with Liu Kang to create a brand-new future, but the Aftermath expansion shattered her hopes.
Mileena
Mileena was a Shang Tsung genetic experiment who was raised by Shao Khan and trained to be a cruel killer. For the majority of the series, she served as an adversary because she was always envious of her sister Kitana and frequently shown a sadistic side of herself.
Aside from being a DLC character after the game’s release, she was a bit absent from Mortal Kombat 11, although she appears to be back in Mortal Kombat 1’s narrative.
Shang Tsung
The series’ main adversary, Shang Tsung, an Earthrealm soul-stealing sorcerer, has practically unrivaled skills. He can travel across the realms without the Elder Gods noticing him thanks to his fealty to Shao Khan.
Shang Tsung attempted to defeat Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath extension, but was unsuccessful. Had he succeeded, he would have created his own timeline, which would have been even more catastrophic than the one depicted in the Mortal Kombat 1 teaser. He appears to have returned with a new strategy in mind nevertheless.
Johnny Cage
Johnny Cage, an action movie actor, is back in Mortal Kombat 1. Johnny Cage has evolved into one of Earthrealm’s finest defenders alongside characters like Raiden and Liu Kang over the course of the series despite his foolish personality, childish actions, and general ego.
However, it has to be seen whether the new Johnny Cage is comparable to his old self in the original timeline given that the younger Johnny was considerably more arrogant and aggressive than the elder Johnny.
Five Kameo characters will make subsequent appearances, it’s also important to note. These are warriors from the DLC, typically from distinct universes. According to two leaks that have already surfaced, Kameo characters from The Boys’ Homelander and DC’s Peacemaker will both appear.
